“Everyone wants to focus on reading, but you have to bring in the writing, or you’re only getting half the equation. These workshops are wonderful because they bring the research and experience together on the page. The students have to think about all the information they’ve gotten and the experiences they’ve had and how it all connects to them and their community. Our writing assesment scores for 2015 were surprisingly high for the district. This tells us that effective writing instruction is an important part of the process.”

Our students got so much out of these workshops. Some of them haven’t spoken three words since school started and in the workshop, they couldn’t stop talking about their writing and asking questions. This is the most writing they have done and they really enjoyed it. I learned things I didn’t know. I’m a better writing instructor for being in the workshops for the kids.

I would like to say thank you to Community Leveraged Learning! This year my daughter, Dominique, achieved the highest test score in Language Arts in the 7th grade as well as most of the 8th grade in the Northwest Evaluation Association Test (NWEA). Dominique has always liked writing and has always been a good writer but after going through your Writing workshop, her writing has gotten better. She uses the skills you all taught her. She structures her stories and essays better, she has also learned how to make her logical writing work better with her imaginative writing. She is also more confident in her writing. Of course, Dominique had to take the test, and I take nothing from her, but I do thank you all for opening her mind even more and helping her take another step towards success.
Thanks for everything!
